This course will give you an insight into life in the trenches for the ordinary British infantryman during the First World War (1914-1918).

By the end of the course, you will have some knowledge of the weapons, clothing, trench routine and other aspects of fighting on the Western Front. You will also learn how the individual soldier fitted into the structure of the British infantry division.

Who should take this course?

The course is open to anyone with an interest in the First World War: no prior knowledge is assumed.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course - just bring your curiosity.

How long is this course?

About 35 hours, and we suggest you set aside about 4 hours a week - but it's up to you. You will have tutor support for 4 months. You will have access to your course for a year.
